KERRI-ANNE AND CRACKPOT!

July 20, 2009:

I've just come from Channel Nine studios in Sydney, after appearing on the Kerri-Anne show to talk about Crackpot - and step parenting.

...And now I'm at ABC Radio in Sydney, waiting to go on air to talk some more about Crackpot, and, of course, more about stepfamilies.

Given this Sunday 26th July is National Stepfamily Awareness Day, and the fact that I have six stepchildren, radio and television like to tie in my book into matters of step parenting.

Crackpot is stepping out!

If you go to the link:

you'll see this, below:

Imagine being a parent to NINE children? Some kids your own and some of them step children. With approximately one in five Australian families now step or blended families, this is fast becoming more common.

It's National Stepfamilies Awareness Day this Sunday so joining me to discuss is mum of nine and author of 'Crackpot' Fiona Trembath and our Psychologist Ian Wallace.

Ian also provides us with some tips for step parents watching to ensure a positive relationship with step children:

TIPS FOR STEP PARENTS

  • Don't expect family to function as a typical family
  • Be patient, flexible and willing to adapt
  • Assert adult discipline and work as a team
  • Don't personalise attacks or rejection
  • Work on solutions, through communication
